1 – Do your research before the visit

Also, research about the neighbourhood and how it looks. What are the amenities nearby? Is there easy access to shops, schools, public transport, parks? Are they within walking distance or not?
You can check it all online using google maps or even google street view to have an online walk around. Or, if you have enough time, see the place yourself so you can get the real feeling of that neighbourhood, see if it is a busy or a quiet place and make sure whether you see your family living there or not.
2 – Don’t rush it
Once you are in the house, take time to see the property and check all details. Look at the layout of the rooms, check the size of each bedroom, see if there is enough sunlight coming in and if the house is well ventilated.
Then, try to imagine your family living there: can you paint this picture? Do you think it will be a good choice? Will the space be enough for your current situation and maybe also for the next following years?

Don’t be afraid of opening each one of the cabinets, cupboard and drawers to have a look inside. Turn on and off the lights to test the electrical system, open all the taps to check the water pressure and so on.
If you come across any damage or issue that needs fixing, write it down or take a picture and research prices of those maintenances later, so you will make sure if it would still be worth buying that house and fixing it later or not.
